A proud moment for WordsMaya! WordsMaya, my young startup gets an opportunity to organize a seminar jointly with the Department of Electronic Science of Savitribai Phule Pune University. Thanks to Dr Shaligram, the Registrar of the Pune University who not only gave us a chance to conduct a pilot batch in his department but also gave my team his valuable guidance for making this seminar happen.

The seminar on ‘Digital Learning Initiative: improving English communication skills assisted by mobile phones’ was conducted on 5th October 2017 in a beautiful Sir C V Raman hall in the Physics Department. The Seminar was inaugurated by Hon. Chief guest Dr. Nitin Karmalkar, Vice Chancellor, Savitribai Phule Pune University.

Hon. Chief guest Dr. Nitin Karmalkar shared his thoughts on the importance of English communication in every student’s life and career. He also shared his amusing story while improving his communication skills during his college days.

Dr. A. D. Shaligram spoke about the need of English Communication skills for graduates to help them present their technical skills to the world. He also commented upon the learning outcomes observed after the WordsMaya course conducted at his department . He also encouraged all the other institutes and academicians to implement a similar way of communication skills trainings for their students.

During my opening speech, I expressed my gratitude towards the dignitaries and the attendees. I also stated the purpose of this seminar which was to propagate this innovative and effective concept of mobile based English learning.

The seminar was attended by academicians and professors from 25 colleges and well-wishers and mentors of WordsMaya.

I started the seminar with my talk. I spoke about the WordsMaya’s journey and the inspiration and purpose behind building WordsMaya. I also presented my observations regarding the issues faced by students while communicating in English and the approach used by the WordsMaya team for solving this problem. I showed a video to demonstrate the unique way of learning English through Facebook Messenger chats. I also showed a video to demonstrate the role of the mentor while giving personalized feedback during chats as well as workshops in classrooms.

Mrs. Shilpa Shetty Sonawane, the Chief Education Officer of WordsMaya then spoke about the content and curriculum aspects of WordsMaya.

The last talk of the seminar was by Mr. Atul Patil, Director of IKSC Knowledge Bridge who shared his experiences while up-skilling the graduates at his institute and how WordsMaya helped his students improve their communication skills and reduce their interview attempts.

After the seminar, all the attendees exchanged their views and ideas over refreshments.

The most popular Marathi newspaper in Pune, Sakaal also featured WordsMaya and this seminar in its column dedicated for startups.
